Weather and packing travel tips for a Jiuzhaigou trip
Jiuzhaigou National Park is a nature reserve and is located in northern Sichuan province of southwestern China. It was inscribed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in 1992 and a World Biosphere Reserve in 1997.
The climate in Jiuzhaigou National Park is subtropical to temperate monsoon which in English means annual temperature is 7 C. (46 F.). In the winter months, it can drop to -3 C. (25 F.) and during the summer reach as high as 16 C. (62 F.).
Spring - Mid March to Late May
The snow of winter starts melting and the river begin to roar as nature enters into a new season.
At this time, Jiuzhaigou National Park has great sunshine because of its' high altitude. It will not be very cold, but the ultraviolet rays are strong. Pack your sun block.
The temperature difference between day and night is still large. WindhorseTour recommends you pack shoes with good traction, sunscreen, a thin coat and sweater when you travel to Jiuzhaigou.
Summer - June to Late August
It is the rainy season of Jiuzhaigou National so pack your best rain coat. There can be sudden rain storms that won't last very long, but after you may catch a rainbow.
The Jiuzhaigou weather in summer is not very hot except those places blazed down by sunlight. However, you will feel a little cold in the morning and evening if you wear traditional summer clothes. We recommend packing a lite jacket that you can tuck away once the air warms up.
If you travel to Jiuzhaigou during the summer, out guides always recommends you to bring an rain jacket / parks or an umbrella, T-shirts, jeans and light coat. Hat with a brim sunglasses and sunscreen are also strongly advised when a summer visit to Jiuzhaigou is in the plan as the sun is very strong this time of yer..
Autumn - Late August to Late October
Is the best time to visit Jiuzhaigou and Huanglong National Parks. Autumn is the Jiuzhaigou brightest season, all the colors variegated red leaves, the color forest produces an inverted image in the bright lake water.
The weather this time of year can fluctuate and we recommend you bring thin sweater and thick coat because of the different temperature between day and night. It is not likely to rain but if a cold spell blows by don't be surprise if you see a bit of snow as November gets closer.
Winter - Late October to Mid March
For many people it is just freezing cold here this time of year, but the view of snow covered mountains and frozen lakes make it very well worth it.
Jiuzhaigou National Park is covered by snow and turns into a pure white world. White is the theme color in Jiuzhaigou.
